I was driving home during a busy night in NH 45 (It’s the national highway which connects Chennai to down south cities of Tamil Nadu) and that's when I understood I was doing Bi-laneial driving ;)
Most of the Indian highways have 2 lanes (for either of the directions), one for the slow moving traffic and the other one for high speed vehicle. One crazy thing which we can witness is most of the lorries ,buses or cars (esp. cabs) make sure that no one over takes them, they keep their huge vehicle in the middle of the road, exactly over the dotted line! Right on that dotted demarcation of lane! our skilled Indian drivers use both the lanes simultaneously and they get this "Super Driver" feel, by doing this.
Bi-laneial driving is such a skill which can be obtained purely by practice. One of the benefits is we can easily confuse the vehicle behind us and win the race! People who opt for this kind of driving never use hand signals / indicators.
Let’s be serious now, One of the basics which is taught / strictly monitored while driving in every country is lane discipline. It really makes driving a pleasure and life easy for everyone on the road. My sarcastic write up on Bi-laneial driving is just to tell my beloved to follow lane discipline, wherever they are. This can be indeed life and time saving!
